All Noh masks are called omote.
There are various theories, but it is said that Hannyabo, a monk in Nara Prefecture, created it in the Muromachi period.
Currently, it can be roughly classified into three types: white, red, and black.
On the stage of Nohgaku, which is designated as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Noh mask "Hannya" is used in "Aoi no Ue", "Dojoji", and "Momijigari".
Since ancient times, it has been stipulated that you should not touch the Noh mask except for the part where the strings pass through. However, at Art Square Asakusa, you can hold it in your hand and see it.
